DMCA Takedown Policy

HeroReads respects the intellectual property rights of authors, publishers, and copyright owners. If you believe that content on HeroReads infringes your copyright, you can submit a DMCA notice to request its removal. This page explains how the process works.

Please submit DMCA or copyright complaints only if you are the copyright owner or legally authorised to act for them. Abuse of the DMCA process may result in account restrictions.

1. What is the DMCA

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a United States law that requires platforms like HeroReads to respond to valid copyright takedown requests. Even if you are outside the US, HeroReads follows a similar process to protect original creators and resolve disputes fairly.

2. How to file a DMCA takedown notice

If you believe your copyrighted work has been used on HeroReads without permission, send a written notice containing all of the following:

  • Include your full legal name and your contact email.
  • Identify the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed. You may include the title, chapter numbers, and a link to the original work if available.
  • Provide the exact link or location of the content on HeroReads that you believe infringes your copyright.
  • Provide a clear statement that you did not authorise the use of your protected work.
  • Include a statement confirming that the information you are giving is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on behalf of the owner.
  • Sign the notice with your full name (digital signature is fine).
Where to send the notice

Email: copyright@heroreads.com
Subject line: DMCA Takedown Request

HeroReads may contact you for additional information to verify your request.

3. How to file a counter notice

If your content was removed due to a DMCA complaint and you believe the removal was a mistake or that you have lawful rights to use the material, you may file a counter notice.

  • Include your full legal name and contact details.
  • Identify the material that was removed or restricted, including the link where it appeared.
  • Provide a statement explaining why you believe the removal was a mistake or that you have the legal right to use the material.
  • Include your consent to accept communication from the original complainant.
  • Sign the counter notice with your full name.

Send your counter notice to:
Email: copyright@heroreads.com
Subject line: DMCA Counter Notice

Submitting a false counter notice may have legal consequences under applicable laws.

4. What HeroReads will do

When HeroReads receives a valid DMCA notice:

  • The content may be temporarily removed or restricted.
  • The uploader may be notified of the claim.
  • If a counter notice is filed, HeroReads may restore the content unless the original complainant begins legal action.
  • Repeated violations may lead to account restrictions or suspension.

HeroReads aims to balance copyright rights and creator freedom while ensuring a fair, respectful process.

5. Good faith use of the DMCA

Only submit DMCA notices for content you truly believe infringes your rights. Misuse of the DMCA process, including false claims or attempts to silence other creators, can result in the suspension of your account and may carry legal penalties.

Before sending a DMCA notice

Make sure the issue is really a copyright violation. Examples of issues that are not DMCA matters:

  • Personal disputes with another creator
  • Negative reviews or comments
  • Similar ideas or genres without direct copying
  • Fan interpretations that do not reuse protected text
